If the .300 BLK is good enough for the U.K. and U.S. military, its more than enough for home defense. A big boom, and a really big flash, sounds like fun, when fun is the goal, anyway. Hey, man. In a 16-inch barrel, .300 Blackout ammunition gets impressive velocity and accuracy, allowing you to hit targets over 150 yards away. It happened that way because when the Russians developed the round, all of their 7.62mm barrel making machinery was built to make 1:10 twist barrels for a bazillion Mosin Nagants and a swag of machine guns in 7.62 x 54R. A fast burning powder might fully burn in those 9 inch of barrel, but even so, the pressure at the end will still be way higher than it is outside the barrel and hence the accelerating force on the bullet will still be more than friction. I assume that there is a finite lifespan of the suppressor guts and shooting supersonic ammo at the range kind of defeats part of the suppressor benefit. While the 300 BLK is easy (and inexpensive) to reload, Remington and AAC recognized that most people are not reloaders. In short, barrel length arguments or advice are pretty worthless in comparison to having actual mathematical data and testing. The shortest .300 Blackout barrel we have in stock is the 6-inch barrel.
